Sourcing the pops: a world tour in seven flavours
Every Mama Pop starts with a question: where does this fruit taste best? The answers turned into a world tour. Mango comes peak-ripened from Peru, a variety chosen for its density and natural sugar, the kind of mango that needs nothing added because nothing is missing. Pomegranate is the Wonderful and Mollar varieties, hand-harvested in Spain between October and December, and every bit of that ruby colour comes entirely from the fruit.
Strawberry is the French Charlotte, a cross between Mara des Bois and a wild strain, picked at the precise moment sweetness peaks and acidity softens. Black Cherry comes from Oberkirch, small German orchards long known for their kirsch and jam, harvested in early July and pressed with real cherry flesh, so the pop carries the weight of the fruit, not just its juice.
Mandarin is Sicilian through and through, Tardivo di Ciaculli and Avana varieties harvested at full winter ripeness, bright citrus carrying a gentle bitterness from the peel that keeps the sweetness honest. Lemon Mint pairs Italian lemons with Moroccan mint, both pressed at their brightest, and if that combination sounds familiar, it should. It drinks like a good limonana.
Then there is Cocktail, which refused to pick a country. Four fruits from four origins: Cavendish banana from Ecuador, strawberry from Spain, mango from Peru and green apple from Greece, one pop with four passports.
Seven flavours, and not one shortcut between them. It would be far easier to buy generic fruit concentrate from a single supplier. It would also taste like it. When the ingredient list is this short, every origin has to earn its place, and every one of these does.
